Tom Ruhan, member of Netia's Management Board and until now member of ECTA (European Competitive Telecommunications Association) Board of Directors, has been elected Deputy President of that body and Chairmain of its Institutional Relations Department.

Tom Ruhan, a member of Netia's Management Board was elected Deputy President. Tom Ruhan also took the helm of the Institutional Relations Committee responsible for the Association's relations with such institutions as the European Parliament or the European Commission.

“Tom Ruhan's election as ECTA Deputy President underscores the growing role of operators from Eastern Europe in shaping the Community's pro-competition policy in the  broadly understood telecommunications sector. This election is also a token of appreciation for our colleague's work to date on the ECTA Management Board,” said Mirosław Godlewski, President of Netia's Management Board.

The European Competitive Telecommunications Association came to existence in 1998. ECTA brings together European alternative telecom operators, Internet Services Providers and services and equipment providers for the broadly understood telecommunications sector.

The Association aims to create regulatory conditions that would allow all providers to compete on equal terms, the result of which is investment growth and supplying Europeans with innovative services. ECTA represents the modern telecom technology sector before government and regulatory bodies, and constitutes a forum for experience exchange for the organisation's members.

ECTA members, including operators, services and equipment providers, as well as associations and business chambers, participate in the development of regulatory policy, amongst others by participating in meetings, conferences and seminars organised by the Association, as well as studies published by it, such as the Broadband Scorecard or the Regulatory Scorecard.
